Everyday care
These pieces are built to be worn, but a few habits keep them looking new for years.
- Last on, first off. Put jewelry on after lotion, perfume and hairspray, and take it off before they go on.
- Keep it out of chlorine and bleach. Both attack silver alloys. Swimming pools and cleaning products are the two most common causes of damage we see.
- Store it dry and separate. Air and humidity drive tarnish; pieces rubbing together cause scratches. A pouch or a lined box for each piece is enough.
- Clean with warm water, mild soap and a soft cloth. Dry fully. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners on opal and any glued setting.
Tarnish is normal
Sterling silver oxidises at the surface. It is not a fault and it is not wear-through: a silver polishing cloth brings it back. Gold vermeil should be polished gently with a dry cloth only, so the gold layer is not abraded.
