Why we set moissanite
Moissanite was found in a meteorite crater in 1893 — silicon carbide, so vanishingly rare on Earth that every stone we set is grown in a lab rather than pulled out of the ground.
It is harder than almost anything else you can wear: 9.25 on the Mohs scale, where a diamond sits at 10. And it bends light further than a diamond does, with more than twice the dispersion. Those are the flashes of colour you catch from across a room.
We set it because it is what makes the rest of this possible. A diamond this size is something you insure. Moissanite is something you put on to go to work.
